DESCRIPTION:What is a juerga? A juerga is a kind of flamenco jam session where there is no distinction between audience and performers and everyone takes part\, supporting each other in collective playing\, singing\, and dancing. At the beginning of each event\, company member or Artistic Director\, Elba Hevia y Vaca may give a short lecture on the history of flamenco and its components\, followed by a mini-lesson of Sevillanas and/or palmas as a way to warm up.

DESCRIPTION:Technique for increasing complexities and speed in footwork\, upper body stylization\, incorporating full body expression in choreography. Included in this level\, palmas\, musicality of palos\, more depth of understanding compas with various palos. Additional study of Sevilanas. Sevilanas are a type of folk music and dance of Seville and its region. They were derived from the Seguidila\, an old Castilian folk music and dance genre. In the nineteenth century they were influenced by Flamenco. They have a relatively limited musical pattern but are rich in lyrics based on country life\, virgins\, country towns\, neighborhoods\, pilgrimage\, and love theme.
